Light Bread Pudding

Total Time: 2 hrs Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 8 -10 slices dry bread
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups milk, scald & cooled

Recipe

  • 1 melt butter or margarine.
  • 2 break up bread, set aside.
  • 3 combine brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice.
  • 4 reserve 3 tablespoons of this mixture for topping.
  • 5 pour melted butter onto the bread crumbs and add the remaining sugar mixture.
  • 6 place the bread mixture in a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish.
  • 7 beat egg, salt, and vanilla in a bowl.
  • 8 add milk slowly.
  • 9 pour over bread mixture in dish.
  • 10 let stand for 5 minutes.
  • 11 sprinkle reserved sugar mix on top.
  • 12 bake at 325f for 45 to 50 minutes.
