Grandma Clouse's Cherry Pudding

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 2 cups sugar (divided)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (originally written 'lump of butter, size of an egg')
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/4 cups flour (enough to make a stiff dough)
  • 2 cups sour cherries
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups hot water

Recipe

  • 1 make a stiff dough from 1 cup sugar, 4 t softened butter, milk, baking powder and flour. add flour in gradually until the dough is stiff but by no means dry.
  • 2 smear dough into a buttered 9x13 pan.
  • 3 make sauce of cherries, remaining cup of sugar, 2 t butter and hot water.
  • 4 pour cherry sauce over patter and bake at 350 degrees f until dough is baked through. if serving hot pass cream or ice cream to accompany.
  • 5 may substitute blackberries or raspberries if desired.
