Grandma Clouse's Cherry Pudding

Ingredients
- Servings: 6
- 2 cups sugar (divided)
- 4 tablespoons butter (originally written 'lump of butter, size of an egg')
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/4 cups flour (enough to make a stiff dough)
- 2 cups sour cherries
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups hot water
Recipe
- 1 make a stiff dough from 1 cup sugar, 4 t softened butter, milk, baking powder and flour. add flour in gradually until the dough is stiff but by no means dry.
- 2 smear dough into a buttered 9x13 pan.
- 3 make sauce of cherries, remaining cup of sugar, 2 t butter and hot water.
- 4 pour cherry sauce over patter and bake at 350 degrees f until dough is baked through. if serving hot pass cream or ice cream to accompany.
- 5 may substitute blackberries or raspberries if desired.
