Neiman-marcus Butter Cake

Ingredients
- 1 package pillsbury pudding-included yellow cake mix (pillsbury brand makes a big difference in the outcome of the cake, 2-layer size)
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 lb powdered sugar
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 350ºf.
- 2 grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
- 3 pour cake mix into mixing bowl.
- 4 mix in 1 slightly beaten egg and butter to a moist dough consistency.
- 5 press mixture evenly in baking pan.
- 6 using electric mixer, beat cream cheese, remaining eggs and vanilla together until creamy.
- 7 beat in sugar gradually, until smooth; this takes several minutes.
- 8 pour cream cheese mixture over dough in baking pan.
- 9 bake 35 to 40 minutes.
- 10 watch carefully so base doesn't get too brown.
- 11 the cheese mixture sinks into the center somewhat, leaving a firmer crust around the edges.
- 12 cut into squares to serve.
- 13 some cooks sprinkle powdered sugar or pecans over the top of the baked cake or garnish it with fresh strawberries.
